Creating a Restful Book Display One Step at a Time

A peaceful home does not have to be created all at once. Sometimes it begins by looking at one small area, working with what we already own, and experimenting until we discover what feels right. For the first project in this Rest in Real Life series, I chose the stair-style bookshelf beside my television cabinet. The Before The bookshelf was already useful and fit the country, farmhouse, and cabin feeling I want for my home. The problem was not the shelf itself. It was how I was using it. Most of the books were standing upright wherever they fit, while others were stacked on a lower shelf. The shelf held what I needed it to hold, but the arrangement did not feel balanced or intentional. I did not need to replace everything. I needed to look at what I already had differently.
